Placer Robotics VEX IQ League

We are excited to present the 2nd season of the Placer Robotics League for elementary and middle school students!

The fall/winter league provides the opportunity for teams of 3-5 students to design, build and program their own robot and compete in the VEX IQ Competition FULL VOLUME. Elementary school division grades 3-6, middle school division grades 7.

We had 16 Placer Robotics and Folsom area teams join us for the inaugural league season at the Roseville Venture Lab, courtesy of our sponsor the Growth Factory

Placer League competition season runs from September - February each year. We highly recommend that prospective team members attend our VEX IQ Summer Camps.

VEX IQ TEAM BASICS

  • Open to elementary and middle school teams, the Placer Robotics League is unique opportunity for kids to have fun and learn about competitive robotics

  • Placer Robotics helps parents organize and register teams, provide the robotics kits, guidance and host the league practices and events

  • Teams also have the option to compete in other VEX IQ tournaments, held throughout Northern California

  • We strongly recommend team sizes of 3-4 students for high engagement levels, but we understand some teams might consider 5 if the team members have busy schedules are just beginning to explore robotics

  • Divisions - determined by birth date of oldest team member as of May 1, 2024

    • Elementary School (typically 4-6th grade locally)

    • Middle School Division (7-8th)

The VEX IQ Robotics Competition, presented by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation, provides elementary and middle school students with exciting, open-ended robotics challenges that enhance their science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) skills through hands-on, student-centered learning.

VEX IQ COMPETITION FULL VOLUME DESCRIPTION

VEX IQ Competition Full Volume (see video) is played on a 6’ x 8’ rectangular field configured as seen below. Two robots compete in the Teamwork Challenge as an alliance in 60 second long teamwork matches, working collaboratively to score points.

Teams also compete in the Robot Skills Challenge where one robot takes the field to score as many points as possible. These matches consist of Driving Skills Matches, which will be entirely driver controlled, and Programming Skills Matches, which will be autonomous with limited human interaction.
